A superb compilation that brings together almost all of the solo recordings that Veda Brown and Judy Clay cut for Stax in the late 60s (Clay) and early 70s (Brown).
Although neither of these formidable soul girls enjoyed much chart action, they both deserve to be more than footnotes in the history of Soul. This CD will help to ensure that never happens.
As well as both sides of their issued 'Finger Clicking' Stax singles, the CD features a wealth of quality unissued material. It includes Veda's original demo of the much recorded '(If Loving You Is Wrong) I Don't Want to Be Right', a holy grail item for soul collectors for decades, and Judy's original solo version of 'My Baby Specializes', one of two hits she enjoyed as a duet with William Bell.
Ace's / Kent recent results with late 60s/early 70s southern soul girls (Doris Duke, Irma Thomas, Sandra Phillips/Bette Williams et al) demonstrate that there is a strong market for this kind of CD. We're confident that this package will be received with the same kind of enthusiasm.
