This third of four albums by keyboard player/producer Webster Lewis.
Webster was prominent as an artist through the late 70s and early 80s appealing to soul and jazz fans alike.
In commercial terms Webster reached his greatest heights here with the success of "Give Me Some Emotion". The song, co-written by Webster, was almost immediately covered and successful again as a solo single for singer Merry Clayton.
"8 For The 8os" is also the only one to be co-produced by Herbie Hancock, who features here amongst an impressive array of guests. (Webster toured for some years as music director for Herbie). This is the third in the series of his albums we are releasing at Expansion, and also includes "The Love You Give To Me" – the ultimate in 'quiet storm' soul fused with jazz fusion, the likes of which we will unlikely hear again. It's where smooth jazz began. |
