ドイツ、ベルリンの音楽とアートのフェスティバル Berlin Atonal が日本における国内外のアーティストによる新たな音楽やサウンドアートの制作、奨励、発表することを使命とする実験音楽のプラットフォーム、 N/A が東京と京都の二都市でNew Codesを開催!!

2/16(金) 京都 Metro 第1部 19:00〜 第2部 23:00〜

2部構成でお届けするN/A and Berlin Atonal present New Codesの第1部は、日本未公開のドキュメンタリー映画、『B-Movie: Lust & Sound in West Berlin 1979 - 1989』を上映します。Berlin Atonalが最初に始まった80年代のベルリンとその音楽シーンの様子が、当時マンチェスターから移住してきた青年Mark Reederの視点から描かれています。当日はMark Reeder本人を迎え、トークショーとQ&Aも行われます。第2部のクラブイベントでは、Berlin Atonalに毎年出演しているMoritz von Oswaldが、昨年のフェスティバルでもTresorを沸かせたテクノDJセットで登場、マンチェスターから常に予想を裏切り続けるDemdike Stareが、斬新なリズムを巧みに折衷していくDJセットを披露します。さらに大阪を拠点にバンドやコラボレーションなど多角的な活動で才能を開花させているアーティスト、YPYのライブセット、同じく大阪の大ベテランのレコード・コレクターでありDJとしても信頼の厚いYAMA、モジュラーシンセで即興演奏を行うbariumとTaguchiが出演、S.O.W Laserがレーザーによる演出を手がけ、エレクトロニック・ミュージックの可能性と先進的なスピリットを感じさせてくれる集いとなることをお約束します。

N/A + Berlin Atonal’s New Codes event in Kyoto comprises two parts. The night begins with a screening of the documentary “B-Movie: Lust & Sound in West Berlin 1979 - 1989”. This lauded feature tells the story of the Berlin’s music scene in the 80s from the perspective of Mark Reeder. The Mancunian emigrated to Berlin at this time had privileged access to the unique social milieu from which Berlin Atonal (among much else) first emerged. He will be in Kyoto himself to present the film and participate in a Q&A session. The second part takes the form of a club night along the lines of Berlin Atonal’s acclaimed quarterly club night at Tresor Berlin. Headlining the event is Moritz von Oswald, legendary figure of German techno and advanced electronic music. Joining him are Demdike Stare, the duo with a worldwide reputation for confounding and expansive club-based sets. The Osaka-based YPY (leader of the band goat) contributes a live set based on the manipulation of cassette tapes, while the veteran record collector and selector YAMA, local modular synth improvisers barium and Taguchi also join.

Joining him are Demdike Stare, the duo with a worldwide reputation for confounding and expansive club-based sets. Mark Reeder appears again, this time as a DJ in the second room, alongside Takahashi, DJ Lil Mofo, Changsie and Sailor Kannako.





『B-Movie:LUST & SOUND IN WEST-BERLIN 1979 - 1989』

1980年代のベルリンの音楽、アート、混沌を描いた映画。壁で分断された都市は、特別な種のサブ・ポップカルチャー故にクリエイティブな人種のるつぼとなり、独創的な物好きや有名人も同様に惹きつけた。その多くは、長く続く商業的な成功ではなく、瞬間、スリル、刺激を楽しむことを選んだ。そこにはヨーロッパの他の地域では不可能のように思われるあらゆることが、全て集まっていた。英国マンチェスターからこの街に飛び込んできた音楽好きの青年、Mark Reederの目を通して描かれる、熱狂的で創造的な10年間を駆け抜けるコラージュであり、パンク・ミュージックから始まりセクシャル・マイノリティーのLove Parade、テクノの誕生までを辿った、現在のベルリンの音楽とカルチャーのルーツを紐解くドキュメンタリー。

Demdike Stare

イングランド北部出身の幼馴染みであるSean CantyとMikes Whittakerによるコラボレーション・ユニット。長年のレコード・コレクターである2人が、その経験を生かし独自の音楽制作を開始したのが2008年、2012年までにオカルトとライブラリー・ミュージックをテーマとした3枚のアルバムを発表した。2013年からは〈Modern Love〉傘下の〈Testpressing〉という12インチ・シリーズでよりノイズ、フリージャズ、ハウス、テクノ、コンクレート音楽に接近したアプローチの作品を発表し始める。2016年にはその集大成とも言えるアルバム『Wonderland』で、それまでのオカルト・テーマを完全に払拭したダンスフロア向けの突然変異的なリズムの可能性を追求した。2009年から彼らが運営するレーベル〈DDS〉からもミステリアスな日本人プロデューサーShinichi Atobeやジャマイカの異色ダンスホール・ユニットEquiknoxxを世に送り出すなど、その驚異的な知識と感性を刺激に満ちたDJプレイでフルに体験してみて欲しい。




Moritz von Oswald

実験的電子音楽における真のパイオニアであり、まさに伝説と呼ぶに相応しいMoritz von Oswaldのキャリアは、まず80年代に遡り、ニューウェイヴ・バンド、Palais Schaumburgに盟友Thomas Fehlmannと在籍し人気を博す。その後より実験的かつアンダーグラウンドなアプローチに傾倒していき、Fehlmannとの2MB(Juan AtkinsやEddie Fowlkesを加えた3MB)、そしてMark ErnestusとのBasic Channel、Maurizio、Rhythm & Soundとしての作品群は、現在でも最も革新的であり影響力を持つテクノ・サウンドとして、音楽史に刻まれる金字塔として愛され続けている。ベルリンとデトロイト、テクノとダブ、歴史と未来を繋ぐキーパーソンとしての功績に甘んじることなく、近年もMax LoderbauerとTony AllenとのThe Moritz von Oswald Trio、Juan AtkinsとのBoarderland、キルギスタンの音楽家Ordo Sakhnaとのコラボレーションといったプロジェクトで制作/パフォーマンスを続けながら、新たな電子音楽の可能性を切り拓き続けている。
