2016年に惜しまれながらも57歳の若さで急逝、全世界のアーティストや音楽ファンに多大な影響を与え続けている孤高の天才=プリンス。現在すべて廃盤となっている1995年以降の入手困難な作品が遂にフィジカル発売となる。第2弾となる今回は1999年から2001年の作品で、同作は1999年発売の『レイヴ・アン2・ザ・ジョイ・ファンタスティック』と自身初のリミックス・アルバム『レイヴ・イン2・ザ・ジョイ・ファンタスティック』(2001年作品)、さらに2000年に発売されたライブDVD『レイヴ・アン2・ザ・イヤー・2000』をコンパイルした2CD+LIVE DVDの豪華3枚組。ライブ映像には「パープル・レイン」「レッツ・ゴー・クレイジー」ほか、レニー・クラヴィッツとの「アメリカン・ウーマン」など見所満載だ。プリンスにとって1995年以降はメジャー・レーベルを離れてより自由に自分のペースで才能を爆発させていった解放期でもあり、作品のあらゆる販売方法を模索した革新期でもあり、そして音楽的にもより精度を高めていった円熟期にもあたる。多くの人へ影響を与え続ける非凡な才能と数々のマスターピースが、時空を超えて未来へと受け継がれていく。
