BULLETレコーズが贈るタイトルまんまのアーリーカントリー集!
THE BULLET RECORDING AND TRANSCRIPTION COMPANY was formed in late 1945 by former Grand Old Opry booking agent Jim Bulliet. Bullet Records was one of the first of what has come to be known as the "post war indies" and was initially one of the most successful. In early 1948 Bulliets' partners bought him out and put Overton Ganong, for-merly with Capitol Records, in charge of the label and the company began to concentrate on Hillbilly and R&B recordings. Overton Ganong bailed out in 1952 and Red Wortham was brought in as a partner.
Blind singer/song-writer Leon Payne was one of the best selling artists for Bullet Records and his classics "They'll Never Take Her Love From Me" and "Lost Highway" were covered by Hank Williams.
Many of the Bullet country artists were from Texas and Ray Price's very first record "Jealous Lies" b/w "Your Wedding Corsage" was recorded there and it shows the humble beginning of an artist who would grow to be an institution in the music business.
The recordings here by Chester "Chet" Atkins, Pee Wee King and Sheb Wooley are notable for being the first recordings by these three men who would go on to become legends of Country Music. Chet Atkins (billed as "Chester Atkins and his All Star Hillbillies"), would eventually be one of the most successful studio musicians, recording artists and record producers of the 20th century.
Bullet Records launched the careers of many spirited performers, but more importantly they launched the record business in Nashville and for that Bullet Records will always be remembered as an important part of American musical history.
