広大なアメリカ大陸において70年代以降にひっそりとプライヴェート・プレスされた無数の宅録作品はまさに『アフター・サイケデリア』と呼ぶに相応しい脳内宇宙での化学反応を引き起こしています。本盤はイリノイ州の中部に位置するピオリアで活動したSIXTH STATIONによる1982年唯一作で勿論世界初CD化。イリノイ州といえばAORTA、KHAZAD DOOM、SPOILS OF WARなど、特色あるバンドが数多く存在した場所ですが、SIXTH STATIONはソフトロックと呼ぶにはあまりにも拙く、儚く、脆いドリーミーな一枚。フランジャーの掛かったエレクトリック・ギターに拙いドラム、弱弱しい男性ボーカルが織り成す楽曲群はジャケットが象徴するように、一日の終わりを告げ、深い夜へ向けてのエンドロールのような優しさを備えています。まさに『夕焼けジャケ』に外れなしの格言を身をもって伝えてくれる作品です。時折顔を出すファズ・ギターも良いエッセンスで、この時代のフランジャー感はBOBB TRIMBLEにも通じる雰囲気です。※バンドの詳細を記載した4pのブックレット、リマスターはABBEY ROADスタジオにて。
From Peoria, Illinois, this private pressing from 1982 this was The Sixth Sense's sole LP. Presented here for the first time on CD.
Stunning soft rock set of dreamy celestial moods carried by a steady beat and rife with phased electric rhythm guitar for a wonderful unfiltered slightly out-of-tune quality. Lead vocalist sounds a lot like Neil Young with his fragile shaky delivery. Deep creative lyrics to match, with all original song writing and plenty of solo leads on top of the rhythm guitar, sometimes two in tandem, sometimes with light fuzz or other effects, reaching some hard-hitting moments on tracks like "Scar Of Love" or the powerful "Before The Snowfall". The only other instruments are bass and drums (no keyboards or even acoustic guitars from what I can tell). Some of the most beautiful selections are the ballads, like "Make A Way For Me" or the delicate title track. One of the most impressive post-1980 custom recordings I've heard. Ken Scott
