ジャニス・ジョップリンとのセッションでも知られる米国を代表するホワイト・ブルースマン、ニック・グレイヴナイツの知られざる80年作が恐らく初CD化!! 本人自らプロデュースしたこのアルバムはコテコテのブルースでは無くご機嫌なニックのギターが軽快にリズムを刻むシンプルなロックンロール作品と いった感じ。KGB時代の爽やかなハーモニーによるシンプルな70年代風から豪快なハープが聴けるブルースから、しっとりしたスローチューンまで内容は抜群!! 全編に渡って切れ味鋭いギターソロも聴く事が出来ます。

ジャーニーの鍵盤奏者であるジョナサン・ケインの奥様(美人ですな・・)であり元ベイビーズとしても活躍したタウニー・ケインのソロ作。世界初CD化です。一言で言うとメロディアス・ハード好きなら120%買った方が良い素晴らしい内容です。I-TENを想起させるクリアー&ドライなサウンドと曲の良さ(特にサビがどの曲も盛り上がります)がバッチリとかみ合い、夫のジョナサンを初めとするジャーニーの面々がタイトな演奏でサポートするグレイトなサウンド。9曲全て捨て曲無し。制作はこの時期多く女性ヴォーカルを手掛けていた名匠キース・オルセンです。

In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Graham Parker sang in small-time English bands such as the Black Rockers and Deep Cut Three while working in dead-end jobs like a glove factory and a petrol station. In 1975, he recorded a few demo tracks in London with Dave Robinson, who would shortly found Stiff Records and who connected Parker with his first backing band of note, The Rumour. Graham Parker had one track, "Back to Schooldays", released on the compilation album, A Bunch of Stiff Records for Stiff Records.In the summer of 1975 Parker joined forces with ex-members of three British pub-rock bands to form Graham Parker and the Rumour. The new group consisted of Parker (lead vocals, guitar) with Brinsley Schwarz (lead guitar) and Bob Andrews (keyboards) (both ex Brinsley Schwarz), Martin Belmont (rhythm guitar, ex Ducks Deluxe) and Andrew Bodnar (bass) and Steve Goulding (drums) (both ex-Bontemps Roulee). They began doing the rounds of the British pub rock scene, often augmented at times by a four-man horn section known as The Rumour Brass: John "Irish" Earle (saxophone), Chris Gower (trombone), Dick Hanson (trumpet), and Ray Bevis (saxophone).The band's first album, Howlin' Wind, was released to acclaim in 1976 and was rapidly followed by the stylistically similar Heat Treatment. A mixture of rock, ballads, and reggae-influenced numbers, these albums reflected Parker's early influences and contained the songs which formed the core of Parker's live shows -- "White Honey", "Soul Shoes", "Lady Doctor", "Fool's Gold", and his early signature tune "Don't Ask Me Questions", which hit the Top 40 in the UK.Parker and the Rumour built a reputation as incendiary live performers: the promotional album Live at Marble Arch was recorded at this time and shows off their raw onstage style. Like the pub rock scene he was loosely tied to, the singer's class-conscious lyrics and passionate vocals signaled a renewal of rock music as punk rock began to flower in Britain.Critical acclaim for the first two albums was generally not matched with LP sales. Graham Parker and the Rumour appeared on BBC television's Top of the Pops in 1977, performing their version of The Trammps' "Hold Back the Night" from The Pink Parker EP, a top 30 UK hit in March 1977.At this point, Parker began to change his songwriting style, reflecting his desire to break into the American market. The first fruits of this new direction appeared on Stick To Me (1977). The album broke the top 20 on the UK charts but divided critical opinions, particularly with numbers like "The Heat in Harlem" -- the band's longest song at the time. Nick Lowe's production also came under fire: some critics complained that the band sounded thin and Parker's voice was mixed down, when in fact a studio mishap had compromised the original recordings and forced the group to remake the album on short notice.An official Graham Parker and The Rumour live album called The Parkerilla, issued in 1978, saw Parker in a creative holding pattern. Three sides were live, with no new songs and with versions of previously released songs that added nothing to the prior studio cuts. Side four was devoted to a "disco" remake of "Don't Ask Me Questions".Parker had long been dissatisfied with the performance of his US record company, Mercury Records, finally issuing in 1979 as a single B-side "Mercury Poisoning", a public kiss-off reminiscent of the Sex Pistols' "EMI".Energized by his new label, Arista Records, and the presence of legendary producer Jack Nitzsche, Parker followed with Squeezing Out Sparks, widely held to be the best album of his career. For this album, The Rumour's brass section, prominent on all previous albums, was jettisoned, resulting in a spare, intense rock backing for some of Parker's most brilliant songs. Of particular note was "You Can't Be Too Strong", one of rock music's rare songs to confront the topic of abortion, however ambivalently.Squeezing out Sparks is still ranked by fans and critics alike as one of the finest rock albums ever made. Rolling Stone named it #335 on their 2003 list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. In an early 1987 Rolling Stone list of their top 100 albums from 1967-1987, Squeezing Out Sparks was ranked at #45, while Howlin' Wind came in at #54. The companion live album Live Sparks, sent to US radio stations as part of a concerted promotional campaign for Parker, showed how well the songs worked on stage, and included another snapping r&b cover, the Jackson 5's "I Want You Back".The jettisoned brass section, incidentally, would continue to play on other people's records credited as The Irish Horns (on the album London Calling by The Clash) or The Rumour Brass, most notably on Katrina and the Waves' 1985 hit "Walking On Sunshine".Bob Andrews left The Rumour in early 1980, and was not officially replaced. However, in studio sessions for the next album, Nicky Hopkins and Danny Federici (of The E Street Band) sat in on keyboards.Although marginally less intense than its predecessor, 1980's The Up Escalator was Parker's highest-charting album in the UK and featured glossy production by Jimmy Iovine and guest vocals from Bruce Springsteen. Significantly, the front cover of the album credited only Graham Parker, not "Graham Parker and The Rumour".The Up Escalator would prove to be Parker's last album with the Rumour, although guitarist Brinsley Schwarz would reunite with Parker in 1983 and play on most of the singer's albums through the decade's end. As well, bassist Andrew Bodnar would rejoin Parker from 1988 through the mid-90s, and drummer Steve Goulding would play on Parker's 2001 album Deepcut To Nowhere.

After The illusion, Mike Ricciardella joined Barnaby Bye with Peppy Castro of The Blues Magoos, & The Alessi Brothers. Later Mike Ricciardella, Mike Maniscalco, Rich Cerniglia, Peppy Castro & Dennis Santiago Formed Wiggy Bits which recorded one album. After Wiggy Bits, Network was formed by drummer Mike Ricciardella. Network's original line-up was: John Vinci (lead vocals), Rich Cerniglia (lead guitar), Mike Ricciardella (drums), Howie Blume (bass), Mike Maniscalco (keyboards), George Bitzer (keyboards, & synthesizers), & Butch Poveromo (percussion). The record label wanted the members to change their names because they thought that their names were too Italian, so Rich Cerniglia shortened his name to Richie C., Howie Blume changed his name to Howard Davidson, Butch changed his name to Jean Paul Gaspar, & Mike Maniscalco changed his name to Mike Coxton. The band's line-up was later changed... John Vinci was replaced by B.G. Gibson & the band's secomd album "Nightwork" was released.

The band was playing clubs in the Upstate NY area and gradually expanded their territory.With the release of Sweet Cheeks, their first album (1978), Duke started touring with national acts. Some of the bands they toured with during their 13 year career included; ZZ Top, Stevie Ray Vaughan, David Bowie, Bob Seeger, Robert Palmer, BB King, Toto, Sea Level, Huey Lewis and the News, Reo Speedwagon, Foreigner, Blue Oyster Cult, The Charlie Daniels Band, The Outlaws, John Lee Hooker, and countless othersTwo additional albums were recorded on the Mercury Record label. Earl Jetty left the band in 1977 and was replaced by Dave Hanlon. Jetty died three years later due to a serious illness.The Middle YearsThe first major change occurred in 1980 when the band left Mercury Records after three albums and sought a more streamlined rock style. Dave Hanlon (Duke's 2nd drummer) and Don Maracle (guitar) went on to other ventures, and drummer Dave Corcoran joined the band.The band signed with CBS affiliate Coast to Coast and recorded two excellent records - the curiously named Duke Jupiter 1 (considering it was their fourth album) and You Make it Look Easy.Tragedy struck in early 1981 when George Barajas contracted a brain tumor!! After a very difficult year George died in August 1982. Rickey Ellis came on board as bassist.Duke's local popularity peaked in June 1982 when a record throng jammed Ontario Beach Park, causing what may have been the greatest traffic jam in the city of Rochester's history.Some 5,000 fans were expected - but over 25,000 showed up. Traffic was so intense that police and fire officials called it a public hazard and Monroe County officials banned rock concerts at the beach.End of the Road...After Coast to Coast Records went under, Peter Morticelli, the band's manager, got Duke a two album deal with Morocco Records, a short-lived feeble attempt by Motown Records to tap into the rock market.After 13 great years the band decided to call it quits. They had accomplished what they set out to do and it was time to move on. After a while the road takes its toll. So... with a smile on their face, and a tear in their eyes, Duke Jupiter played a farewell concert in their hometown of Rochester, NY in 1986.

クイーンや10CCあたりを目指しつつも微妙なB級感が拭えない好バンド、シティ・ボーイの最終作が遂に世界初CD化!! 歯切れの良いブリティッシュ・ハード・ポップを聴かせる"NO ORDINARY LIFE"、シンセ+コーラス+哀 愁メロが盛り上がる"RAT RACE"、鍵盤連弾のサビが素晴らしい泣きメロハードな"NAMES AND ADDRESSES"など、彼らの作品の中でも曲が揃っており、ハード・ポップ度も高目。

アージェントのロッド・アージェント＆ラス・バラード以外の3人が結成したグループ、フェニックスの2作をカップリングしたCD。サウンドはアージェント～70年代のフーに近い英国的なハードロック/ポップ。アージェントではギターだったジョン・ヴェリティ（元ジョン・ヴェリティ・バンド）がヴォーカルを務めていますがこれが中々上手い!! ロジャー・ダルトリー×ロバート・プラントという感じのシャウターっぷりを発揮しています。英国70年代ハードロックの中でもブルージーさよりポップさを追求した隠れ名盤でしょう。リズム隊の二人はこのあとキンクスへと加入。

英国ニッチ・ポップ～AORファン待望のサッド・カフェ'82年リリースの5作目が初CD化。M-3のハードなギターと、電子音をちろっと入れ、パワフルなサックスを入れ込んでくる音は、80年代の時代を象徴するかのような縦ノリサウンドに仕上がっており、胸馳せる曲。かと思いきや、次曲では、しっとりとしたピアノ入りバラード曲を差し込んでくるこのアルバム1枚のバランス感がいいですね。AORファンから、80年代ダンスミュージック好きにもマストアイテムと推奨させていただきます。

DAVEY JOHNSTONE、CALE QUAYE、LESLEY DUNCANら参加しKEN ASCHERらのプロデュースを務めた73年ファーストアルバム。後にマイナー系のAORファンに知られる作品を残すBILL QUATEMANですが、本作はアコギをメインとしたフォーキーなSSW作品に仕上がっており、ポップな感性を持ち合わせた極上のメロディと美しいストリ ングス、素晴らしいコーラスワークが魅力的な一枚。楽曲の完成度は抜群ですし、M-③やM-⑧あたりのアコースティックなロック・ナンバーも見事。優しさ に包まれたドラマッティックなバラードM-⑦あたりもオススメです!!初期ＪＤサウザーやケニーランキンあたりが好みのSSW/AORファンには間違い無 しな名盤♪

70年代後半から80年代前半にかけて活躍したデトロイト出身ハードロックバンドTHE ROCKETSの78年セカンドと79年サードをセットにした一枚。この時代はダンサブルなリズムを取り入れたメロディアスハードナンバーが充実した時期 でもあり、マイナーヒットを記録したピーターグリーン作『OH WELL』は最高に気持ち良いワイルドで鋭いギターリフとヴォーカルであるデイヴ・ギルバートのハスキーヴォイスがロック魂に火をつける名曲。 『Lucille』のカヴァーなんかもグッド♪

詳細不明ですがギターボーカルであるBob O'Neillを中心としたハードロックグループの78年と79年作の2イン1。重心の低いリズム帯と、ぶ厚いギターサウンドにワウがかかったソロやファ ンキーなカッティングが絡み合う激しい曲など、高音ハーモニーも心地よいドラマティックなミディアムナンバー、感動的なメロディセンスを持ったハード系 AOR好きにオススメできるグループです!!

当時M.M.E.B.で活躍していたChris Thompson(vo)とM.M.E.B(『WATCH』『ANGEL STATION』に参加)/STATUS QUO/Colin Blunstone等英国系アーティスト作品のSessionヴォーカリストとして活躍していたStevie Lange(vo)を中心に、後にTHE PRETENDERS/Paul McCartney等で活躍するRobbie McIntosh(g)、THE HEAD BAND/NUCLEUS/PACIFIC EARDRUMのBilly Kristian(g)等々実力派ミュージシャンにより結成された英国産A.O.R.バンド、'78/'81年作がリマスター/2in1仕様で04年再発CD化。'Hot Summer Night'のTop20ヒット等米国主体に活動したバンドですが、両作とも当時のA.O.R./西海岸系のテイストを取り入れながらも、フロント二人のSoulfulで"熱い"ツインvoや洗練されながら適度なHard Rock志向も加えた意外に重厚なサウンド/arr.がいかにも英国産らしい内容。Chris Thompsonファンは元より、同時期のM.M.E.B./AVIATOR/CHARLIE等の英国産メロディアス系やGRAND PRIX/NIGHTWIND等のHard系ファンにもおススメの一枚です。ボーナスとしてシークレット・トラックとしてやはりTop20ヒットとなった米映画『THE CHAMP』主題歌'If You Remember Me'を追加。【ボーナス1曲収録/Remaster/2in1】
