Los Auténticos project started in December 2007 when multi instrumentalist/singer El Abuelo and bongo player Koichi who met on the street of central Havana. They immediately got together to play then El Abuelo brought amazing maracas player/singer Reinaldo and his brother guitarist Alberto to form the new band “Los Auténticos”. Purely acoustic, soulful, passionate and nostalgic music referred to as “trovadores” (traditional singer/songwriter) playing authentic Cuban melody and rhythm and singing about simple life style, love, joy and sadness. The album opens with the sound, wave and breeze from Malecón (seaside street) where they first met which is a well-known
place in Havana. This melodious intro welcomes you to the world of Los Auténticos. Dramatic song Cantinero de Cuba which is written by Spanish composer Pareja Obregon that is sung about Cuban bartender who makes cocktails (perhaps mojito or daiquiri) to forget everything in the past. Super Latin classic song Vereda Tropical is spiced up with the Cuban flavor tres guitar. Swingy El Cutungo is an original song in the style of guaracha son for dancing. La Muñeca is a sweet romantic ballad of Reinardo’s composition. Carlos Puebla’s dedication to Che Guevara’s classic Hasta Siempre is a tribute to the 50th Anniversary of revolution in Cuba. Son, guaracha, bolero, cha cha chá, merengue and guajira are the characteristic sounds recorded in one of members’ house in central Havana and you can feel the authenticity and richness of Cuban music which will lead you to sing and dance along with Los Auténticos.
