1977年に結成されたグラスゴー出身のパンクバンド。78年にリリースされた唯一のシング ル“TIMEWALL”は、ご存知パンクコンピシリーズKILLED BY DEATH に収録され、今ではUKを代表する名盤、名バンドとなる。現在でも活躍している彼等のアルバムがリリース!!!

バンドのルーツは1970年後半にイギリス中にパンクロックが大爆発していた頃に遡る。1978年、大部分のバンドが自宅から成長したように、DIYでのアプローチは基準となっていたので、彼等はロ ンドンの南にあるアラスカスタジオをブッキングしレコーディングを開始。その時だけの契約でTHE VIBRATORS のベーシストが参加し、パットはバンドがどんな音にしようか理解もしていた。それから数ヶ月後の1979年、自分達で書き上げた2曲、”TIMEWALL”、”Talking About My self”は自身のレーベル、Timebomb Explosionsからリリースされ、彼等のデビューシングル“はストリー トでヒット。反響も大変良く、あのラジオDJのジョンピールも番組で何度かプレイし、その後2500枚のシングルは3週間で完売。やがてシングルはオルタナティブチャートの#21に達し、それは北から来た全く無名なバンドが起こした素晴らしい成果である。そして彼等はロンドンのハウンスローに拠点を移し直ぐさま盛大なロンドンのライブシーンの人気者となる。それから30 年経った現在でもバンドは活動をしており、今回のリリースは彼等の多彩な経歴で広範囲 なバックカタログからのセレクトで、思い出の小旅行へ出かけられるアルバムである。

The bands roots can be traced way back to the late 70s when Punk Rock was exploding through-out the UK. Like the majority of these home grown bands, a DIY approach was the norm so the band ventured down south in ’78 and booked them self into Pat Collier’s “Alaska Studios”, in Waterloo, London. An instant bond was made as being the bassist with THE VIBRATORS, Pat knew what sort of sound that FIRE EXIT was trying to achieve.

A few months later in ‘79, their debut release hit the streets… Two self penned numbers ‘TIMEWALL’ backed with ‘Talking ‘Bout Myself’ was self released on the bands own ‘Timebomb Explosions’ label. It was well received and after several plays by the late great ‘John Peel’, over 2500 copies were sold in just over three weeks! (Those were the days!!). The single peaked at #21 in the Alternative charts which was a real achievement from this unknown band from over the border up north.

They relocated to Hounslow in London and quickly became favourites on the gig scene that was flourishing through out London.

Fast forward 30 odd years and the band are still gigging today with a new lease of life! On this release you get a trip down memory lane with a selection of tracks from their extensive back catalogue from the bands colourful career. Gerry, the main stalwart along with original band mate Brian Kerr who has floated in and out of the band while playing stints with the Johnny Moped and Captain Sensible are right on top of his lyrics with songs bang up to date with the attacks on Glasgow Airport to all the conflicts that are happening through-out the world…….
