大好評だった「BRITISH MOD SOUNDS OF THE 1960S」の続編で、4CDセットで95曲を収録。
今回は60年代英国のポスト・モッズ・シーンを深く掘り下げる内容となっています。前回の「BRITISH MOD SOUNDS OF THE 1960S」がリリースされる前から、それに続く作品の話が持ち上がっており、コンパイラーのEDDIE PILLERは、少し希薄ではあるがストレートな第2弾を提供するより、「モッズが次にしたこと」を探るコレクションというテーマでまとめることを決意。
アメリカのR&Bの焼き直しに満足することなくシーンは多方面に分裂、しかしそのすべてが前向きなものではなかった。サイケデリック、秘教的、東洋的な影響を受けた者もいました。また、より牧歌的、またはフォークをベースとしたルートを模索もしています。その間に、目や耳の肥えたリスナーの選択肢はジャズ・ロック、プロト・プログレ、ヘヴィロック、サイケデリック・ソウルなどへと向けられるようにもなっていきます。
今作ではオリジナルのモッズの主役たち(スモール・フェイセス、ザ・フー、アクション、キンクス)と、将来のスーパースターたち(デヴィッド・ボウイ、マーク・ボラン、フリートウッド・マック、レッド・ツェッペリンのジミー・ペイジ、イエスのスティーブ・ハウなどが登場)、そして60年代にはレコードが出なかったがエディがそのテープを探し出したという、あまりにも有名、あまりにも珍しいアーティストたちの軌跡を追うような内容となっています!!
