60 年代から 70 年代のファンクのいかしたグルーヴ&ブレイク、そこにフィリピン出身のメンバーによるジャンキーでどこか泥臭いサウンドが組み合わさっており非常に好物だ。そういったセンスに加え、音大卒という優秀さが垣間見れるのが、パンク、メタル、ジャズ、フュージョン、アフロキューバン、などの幅広いテイストを危なげなくハイブリッドしている点だ、これは素晴らしいです。当時、政治や、酒、薬物中毒について話し言葉で歌うスタイルで熱狂的なファンを獲得、極度のアル中のため10数年の時間でリリースしたアルバムは4作と比較的少なめだそうだ。今回入荷分はデットストックのためお早めに。

Radioactive Sago Project and how to describe their sound:Take the tightest grooves and the and the sickest breaks of '60s-70s funk, add dollops of grime from Manila's sleaziest sidewalks, throw in a brass section that weaves and stabs like a drunken marching band waiting to be ambushed anytime by blasts of punk, metal, jazz, afro-cuban, and free atonal skronk. Top it off with surreal spoken-word that is half-political commentary and half-dive into the murk of sheer absurdity. Imagine Zappa and Black Sabbath in a gangbang with Jiro Inagaki, along with Flower Travellin' Band and The Boredoms, John Zorn's Naked City sniffing glue and taking acid with Dead Kennedys, Gil Scott-Heron, Jack Kerouac, and The Last Poets.A bit too much? Too impossibly confused and insanely unfocused? That, for you, is the cultural miasma that is Philippines. Consider: a classically-trained octet from the country's premiere state university, but with their unusual musical tastes and even more desperate predilection for alcohol resulted in a mere four full-length albums in 14 years of existence. Truly, this band fits the industry like a square peg in a round hole. "Urban Gulaman (2004)" is the band's second effort and this vinyl release celebrates 20 years of cacophonous tropical weirdness and strong malt liquor.
