売切 注文不可Amos Milburn was one of the pioneers of piano-based R&B to emerge from Texas in the post-war years to become one of the artists who helped frame the template for rock 'n' roll, along the way enjoying a run of memorable hits from 1947 through into the mid-'50s.He developed from his beginnings as a boogie-woogie pianist to become a jump blues bandleader, scoring his first hit with Chicken Shack Boogie, and after that helped the Los Angeles-based Aladdin label to become a major force, with his run of hits including his specialist strand of rocking booze-related hits like Bad Bad Whiskey, Thinking And Drinking, Let Me Go Home Whiskey, One Scotch, One Bourbon, One Beer and Good Good Whiskey. This great-value 52-track 2-CD set comprises nearly half of the 106 A & B sides he released on Aladdin, and naturally includes all of his 19 Billboard R&B chart hits, the majority of his A sides and selected B sides. 売切 注文不可※CD-R / 31頁ブックレットFormed in 1956 by a group of prominent London-based British modern jazzmen including trumpeter Jimmy Deuchar, The Downbeat Big Band soon entered the annals of UK jazz history as not only the finest unit of its kind – fiercely dedicated to musical modernity at a time when many other parochial big bands trod an awkward path between purism and commerce – but also as a proving ground for the arranging skills of a musician who would eventually rise to be its unofficial 'leader' – Tubby Hayes. Indeed, the potent mix of in-house writing talent, all-star cast, razor’s-edge repertoire and the leader’s own multi-instrumentalism made the Downbeat band something a prototype for later incarnations of Hayes' own big band, and for close to five years, its sporadic existence delighted scores of British jazz fans. However, despite its formidable reputation and glittering list of alumni – including such legendary Brit-jazzers as Ronnie Scott and Phil Seamen – the band was long thought to have left nothing recorded in its wake. 廃盤※CD-RAmong the subtlest and most consistent drummers of his generation, Allan Ganley is famed for his work with British jazz legends like John Dankworth and Tubby Hayes, but throughout his career he led a dazzling array of his own units, showcasing not only his immaculate instrumental skill but his equally accomplished composing and arranging talents. The first of these, in 1957, featured the sensational Jamaican altoist Joe Harriott, replaced the following year by the underrated Canadian saxophonist Art Ellefson. Shortly afterwards, Ganley and baritonist Ronnie Ross teamed up to form The Jazzmakers, a band that would tour and record in the USA in 1959. This new Acrobat release includes the contents of two incredibly rare 7” EP’s featuring Ganley’s quartet, ‘Gone Ganley’ and ‘The High Priest’, both of which have never been released in a digital format, together with the Jazzmakers’ eponymous New York-recorded debut album. 廃盤※CD-RWhen Ronnie Scott scooped first place in the tenor sax category of the Melody Maker readers’ poll in early 1951 the victory – his third such award – prompted an especially concentrated patch of recorded activity for the Esquire label. Sharp-as-a-tack, sports car driving, ineffably glamorous and bursting with musical swagger, Scott had it all and it was little surprise that producers Carlo Krahmer and Peter Newbrook clearly wanted to make the most of their star signing. Over the ensuing year they recorded him not only leading his own quartet and all-star “Boptet” but also in partnership with pianist Ronnie Ball’s trio and with fellow tenor star Kenny Graham. The range of the music on these sessions – covering everything from Graham’s prototypical Afro-Cuban fusions to the cool, Getz-like ambience of the recordings featuring Scott in a quartet format – fully illustrated the young tenorist’s gifts, as well as showcasing the talents of an impressive array of British jazz notables, including Jimmy Deuchar, Victor Feldman and Tony’s Crombie and Kinsey.
