DESCRIPTION
“Mystery, sensuality, provocation, the bright colors of the Caribbean, an invitation to an unrestrained dance, the beauty of kitsch…the chachachá represents everything that excites me about music.” Alejandra Fierro Eleta (Gladys Palmera)

Cha-Cha-Cha: a dance and an era in the Gladys Palmera Collection" is the first book under the Gladys Palmera label, the largest record archive of Afro-Latin music in the world. It is an exclusive product, a deluxe edition with a hard cover and full color images and high quality paper. 416 pages, more than 800 covers, posters and full color photographs from the golden age of Latin music in the middle of the last century.

In these pages you will find an invitation to travel through the history of Latin music through its heroines, its great instrumentalists and those geniuses of illustration and images who were able to turn every recording into a collector’s item by virtue of their arresting designs and unique typography. Whether reflecting clichés or innovation, it’s as if the best of graphic design, illustration and photography convened to create these authentic works of art.

The four chapters that proceed the images in this exhibition in book form document and discuss a great deal of the world of chachachá.

The first is historical, going back to the original creation of the rhythm. The second revolves around a woman who became the source of inspiration for the first-ever chachachá song. The third is about the dance, and the personalities who helped promote it, like Bruce Lee. Yes, the martial arts king! And the fourth talks about typography, how the word chachachá is written and the diverse fonts that have adorned its covers.

These texts and record covers recreate an era and encapsulate the spirit of this book spearheaded by Alejandra Fierro Eleta, the soul of the collection, who has dedicated her life to music through Radio Gladys Palmera.
