ニューヨークはイースト・ヴィレッジの不良詩人達によるアヴァン・ロックの源流、ファグス。フランク・ザッパのマザーズと並び称される存在ながら、マザーズに比べると圧倒的にチープで骨組みだけのサウンドは、よりダイレクトに詩を届けます。盟友のホーリー・モーダル・ラウンダーズ同様にカントリーやフォークをベースにしながらも悪意と知性とユーモアを撒き散らす様は、正にニューヨークのカウンターカルチャーを象徴しています。そんなファグスを率いたエド・サンダースのレア音源と未発表音源を大量収録したまさかの4CDボックス! 未発表音源76曲はデモ、ワールド・プレミア、レア音源 ファグスの1965-67年の未発表パフォーマンスを含む3時間以上の衝撃の内容です。

 

真の完璧主義者であったエドは、デモでさえ細心の注意を払い、ホーム・スタジオで質の高いトラックを制作していました。ファグスの初期激レア音源には彼らの初めてのライヴ音源、アレン・ギンズバーグとのブルース・セッションも収録。60年代のサマー・オブ・ラブの時代、彼らは反戦運動の著名なメンバーであり、常に体制側からの脅迫や報復にさらされていました。彼らの目的は明確で、ベトナム戦争終結への政治的圧力を高めることでした。80年代、エドはファグズと共に数多くのアルバムをレコーディングしますが、その中でも最も素晴らしい瞬間のひとつは、非常に親しい友人ジャニス・ジョプリンへの捧げた「ジャニス・ジョプリンに捧げる歌」で、その未発表デモは、9分を超える極めて繊細な曲で、非常素晴らしい出来。1981年にカムバックしたときには彼は新しい発明品であるパルス・ライアーを駆使しました。そんな彼の長く多様で尖り続けたキャリアからほとんどが未発表のもので編集された驚愕のボックスセットです。
