2000年代初期にどうしても見学したく、まだご健在であったデトロイト の伝説的なスタジオNSCにレンタカーを借りわざわざ足を運んだことがあります。そこで刻まれた現存する最後のスタンパーを使用した永遠に色あせない8本の無限のアートフォームCycle30。当時2枚手に入れ延々とこのレコードをMIXしミニマルの可能性を初めて感じた思い出深いレコードです。

In early 2000s, I desperately wanted to see the legendary NSC Studio in Detroit: I rented a car and visited all the way there.  Cycle 30 was cut there; it is an artform with 8 infinite loops which never get dated.  I remember purchasing two copies and mixed them for a long long time to realize the great potential of Minimal Techno for the first time. A very memorable record.

ミニマルテクノの歴史を語る上で最重要な一枚といえる「CYCLE 30」。
1994年にオリジナル盤がリリース、A面には収録の8トラックは、それぞれが無限ループの溝となっており、ミニマルテクノのアートフォームを究極的に提示した問題作として衝撃を与えた。



今回の再プレスにあたり、当時のデトロイトテクノの多くを手掛けていた伝説的マスタリングスタジオである NSCこと NATIONAL SOUND CORPORATION。そのエンジニアとして、デトロイトは元より世界中のDJ/プロデューサーたちが魔法的な技工で魅了された名工である故ロン・マーフィー(Ron Murphy) がカッティングした現存する最後のスタンパーを使用。
ロン亡き今、オリジナルのサウンドを再現することはほぼ不可能と思われ、現存スタンパーも消耗してしまったため、今回のプレスは文字通りのラストプレスとなるだろう。(今回は600枚プレスされたもののうち、300枚を流通。残りの300枚は30年後の2052年、AXIS 60周年に発売予定)

When it came out it was a "little revolution"! I remember loving the sound aesthetics but also the "physical" aesthetics of the record, those sound "loops" that corresponded to physical "loops" in the form of rings that looked like those around a planet, in short all the Axis imagery magnified once again!
I remember loving and playing all the tracks on the record, "Man from Tomorrow", "Vertical", and the various loops.
But "Utopia" is always in my sets, either I play the whole song, or I use the introduction of the song, so intense and powerful to evoke so many different emotions, and to transition from one musical style to another. »

« It really was a DJ secret weapon at the time. Being able to mix so quickly between the different locked grooves. Those were a great contrast to the subtle and atmospheric tracks Man From Tomorrow, Vertical and Utopia on the B-side which were a great inspiration too. »
