Enrique Fernandez, is a New York based sax player who has played with the greats of Latin music including Mario Bauza, Tito Puente, Mongo Santa Maria, Patato Valdes, Juan Luis Guerra and many others. On the jazz side, he works with the Duke Ellington Orquestra, David Murray Big Band, Ray Mantilla, Hamiet Bluit and many more. This work showcases his interest in the diverse musical cultures of Latin America and charts a unique path in Latin Jazz. "Cantos del Sexto Sol" features Cuban pianist Omar Sosa and Peruvian shaman/musician Tito de la Rosa, bassist Geoff Brennan and drummer Josh Jones.
It is another collaboration between Enrique Fernandez and producer Greg Landau that began in the 1970’s when they toured with Arcelio Garcia, lead singer from Malo, and played in many local San Francisco bands together, including the legendary Latin Punk band, Los Pachanga Pistols. Later, they teamed up to work with Puerto Rican poet Piri Thomas, as well as to record the legendary Grammy nominated Ritmo y Candela CDs, that featured Patato Valdes, Orestes Vilato and Changuito from Los Van Van. Greg Landau is known for his works with Susana Baca, Maldita Vecindad, Patato Valdes, Quetzal, Bobi Cespedes, Dr. Loco and many others.
