The Cañambú band is, beyond the shadow of a doubt, a unique band in Cuba because of the use they make of bamboo and the peculiar sonority the latter produces. It is also unique because among its members they include a voice with unbelievable possibilities not only due to its high register but also due to the style of performing Son: the only survivor of the five Ruiz Bousa brothers, who founded the Cañambú band during the 40`s.
The five brothers are from San Luis neighborhood that is located in the eastern part of the island. The sixty-three-yeard old Arístides conserva `un pito` (still keeps some voice), that`s the way they call the talented and good Son voices in San Luis. So he still enjoys a strong traditional reputation among the greatest singers in the neighborhood. As they started to retire, some young and talented musicians who were also born and grew up in San Luis subbed the other brothers. Such is the case of Walfrido Alacón, the three-string guitar player and Juan Pruna, the Cañambú bongo player. This CD includes classic themes from both the genre and from Arístides himself, who is also an important composer.
