1940年代、まさにアフロキューバン・ジャズ黄金期の象徴として短命な人生を駆け抜けた偉大なコンガ奏者、チャノ・ポソ。盟友マリオ・バウサの勧めでN.Y.にわたりディジー・ガレスピーとのセッションに参加したチャノは、その後の歴史を変えたといえる名曲「MANTECA」や「CUBANA BE CUBANA BOP」を共作。特に「MANTECA」でのチャノのコンガ・ソロは凄まじいものがあり、現在もそのレベルに到達するプレイヤーは皆無であろう。これぞCUBOPの最高傑作。合掌。
